WhatsApp verification code not arriving? What to check

Nine times out of ten it's one of a handful of simple things. Work down this list.

1. Check the number and country code

WhatsApp splits the number into a country and the rest. For a US number, the country must be United States (+1) and the box after it gets the 10 digits only, without another 1 at the front. One wrong digit sends the code somewhere else entirely, with no error.

2. Ask for the code by text, not by call

WhatsApp can send the code as an SMS or read it out in a phone call. If your number receives texts only, which Airsim numbers do, choose SMS. A call-based code will never reach you.

3. Respect the retry timer

After each request, WhatsApp shows a countdown before you can ask again, and the wait gets longer each time. Requesting over and over can lock you out for hours. Ask once, wait for the timer, then ask once more.

4. Make sure the number is a mobile line

If the number is VoIP (most free app numbers and many cheap "virtual" numbers), WhatsApp often refuses to send a code at all, or shows a message saying the number isn't supported. No amount of retrying changes that; you need a real mobile number.

5. Look in the right place

With Airsim, codes appear in your dashboard by themselves, usually within a few seconds, without refreshing. They're also emailed to you, so check your inbox and spam folder too. Open the number to see every text it has received.

6. Wait out WhatsApp's own limits

Sometimes WhatsApp holds codes back for a while after many attempts, or after a number was recently registered elsewhere. If it tells you to wait, waiting is the only fix. Trying a different method (like the WhatsApp Business app instead) won't skip it.
